Oranga Whanau Coordinator Services
Oranga Whanau provides an early intervention service to Maori whanau by identifying needs around care, nurturing and support of tamariki.
The Oranga Whanau worker assists parents, caregivers and their whanau by providing a personal service and practical support, advice and mentoring as required, including:
- promoting the wellbeing and safety of tamariki in households
- increasing access for Maori parents to ante-natal and parental support
- increasing the practices associated with whangai (nurturing) in the community
- increasing support systems for young Maori parents within the community
The Oranga Whanau service is free to all who meet the criteria. Referrals can be made by:
- Self-referral
- Whanau/whanui
- Health providers
- GP services
- Lead Maternity Carer (LMC)
- Government agencies
